1. Attendance

Minutes: 

Present: Janice Kerekes, District 1; Carol Studdard, District 2; and Superintendent Van Zant.

Absent: Tina Bullock, District 3; Johnna McKinnon, District 4; and Lisa Graham, District 5.

The meeting began on a sad note with Mrs. Studdard announcing that Mrs. Bullock's husband had passed away earlier in the afternoon after an extended illness.  With Ms. Graham and Mrs. McKinnon also absent, Board Attorney Bruce Bickner clarified that since this was a workshop with no business scheduled to be transacted, a quorum was not needed to hold the advertised workshop.

2. Review 2013-14 and 2014-15 fiscal year Budgets

Minutes: 

Dr. George Copeland, Assistant Superintendent for Business Affairs, reviewed Fund 100 (General Fund) and Fund 200 (Debt Service).  Dr. Copeland made comments about the Moody's report and the district's credit rating which was downgraded one step due to the low fund balance. 

Denise Adams, Deputy Superintendent, reviewed student enrollment counts.  Both Dr. Copeland and Mrs. Adams emphasized the need to allocate with caution until the district sees what the 3rd calculation yields.  The district's greatest expenditure is for employee salaries and benefits at 88%.  There was discussion about how to reduce this percentage.
